Cruel Summer

I don't know if I am being pranked, but....
I have had about 5 different customers this past 4th of July weekend who have not shown up for their appointments. Some of them were kind enough to let me know, some were not. Please do not schedule an appointment with me unless you are completely serious about buying a kitten.
This means...

1.
you have spoken with your family, already,
2. You have financial means to move forward with the adoption.
3. You are aware of my location, and you are free to travel here.

For instance:
I feel sad when I look at the supplies I had prepared for a customer that I thought was coming yesterday. The bag of supplies is sitting here on the floor, right next to me. I had went to my own personal pet store (on the side of my house) and fetched her a litter box, a bed, food bowls, scratching pad, etc. Then, I came back inside, and I went in my kitchen and got a Ziploc gallon sized bag, and poured some cat litter in it, for her. I found a smaller bag and poured her some food in it. She said she was only in town for a few days, and staying the night in a hotel, so that's why she needed these extra supplies. You see.
Then, my husband said, "Run and go get ready so we can go out to eat at Mighty Fine Hamburgers". I said, "Well, I'm sorry I can't because I have a customer coming this afternoon".  So he left without me. I ran and took a quick 5 minute shower, because I was dirty from doing cat chores. Next, I was getting the kitten ready, making sure he wasn't dirty or anything, when suddenly she texted me... "So sorry, we aren't going to adopt a kitten after all because of da da da da da." So I ended up heating up a frozen meal for dinner, instead of a juicy burger. I threw the bag of supplies i prepared for her in my kitten room, & put the kitten back up.
So, you see how someone's little idea of "Oh hey I think I'll just randomly adopt a kitten today out of the blue, all willy-nilly" can cause me a lot of headache and unnecessary hassle? OK. Now imagine that happening every single day of last week. I am not sure what is going on. Perhaps it is the same family pranking me everyday. You know, first brother texts me, then mom, then the sister, then dad, then the dog.
When you reach out to me and text me, I have no way of telling if you are a serious customer or not, so hopefully if you read this rant first, you will not contact me, unless you are positive you are able and ready to adopt a kitten. Because these false appointments are uprooting my daily life.
Also, why would a person text me and ask me (for example) how much Lynx is? If you managed to read that his name is "Lynx", then how did you miss the price right directly under his name?
Or... "Can I see pictures of the parents?" Then I send them a screenshot of my PARENTS TAB. One time I had a lady ..... let me tell you this story...lol
It was about a year ago. She set up an appointment to buy a kitten. She got here on time, but she wouldn't get out of her car, and sat there parked for like 20 minutes. I waved and waved at the vehicle from my porch. Finally, I texted her and said "Are you here in a black SUV?" Because I was starting to get creeped out.
She finally got out and said "Sorry I was on a business call". I thought oh okay then, no worries.
I showed her the kitten she came to see. She started asking me questions like you wouldn't beleive! She then asked to see the parents. I showed her pictures, but ho no .. that wasn't good enough. She wanted to see them -in person. So I ran inside and grabbed Blueberry and ran back out and showed him to her. Blueberry was like "What the..."  Then I put him back inside, and I ran and grabbed Portia, and came back out and showed her to the lady. Do you want to know what that lady said? She said, "Are these the real parents?" I just sighed and looked at her cross eyed. I said "SERIOUSLY? You know... I have NEVER experienced this with ANY customer, EVER!". She goes "I'm sorry I'm sorry". I'm looking at her like either buy this kitten or GTFO. Finally she bought the kitten and left.
Then another time, This crabapple ladyknocks on my door to pick up her new kitten. I opened the door getting ready to step out and greet her, well.... she comes barrelling inside. Or she TRIES to step inside. Practically almost knocking me over. I'm kind of a big girl, so I block her, and pull the door closed from behind my back. She had the most crabapple face. Like if someone told you to draw a picture of a grouchy librarian, she would be the composite. She was all frowned up and I couldn't understand why. I lifted up the kitten and dangled it in her face as to ease her tension... to turn her frown -upside down. But that stank face didn't budge. Then she goes "I want some water because I live in San Marcos, and the kitten may get thirsty."
OK... I have people drive here from Oklahoma, Arizona, Arkansas, etc... but you live over in San Marcos, and you think the kitten might get SOOOOOO thirsty between my house and yours, that you are going to pull over and give that kitten a sip of water? I'm thinking... lady you just trying to get in my house. But I ran inside and grabbed her a bottle of Aquafina, handed it to her with a smile.
Then she started walking to her car with my kitten, having not paid me yet. She mumbled, I'm gonna go show my husband, as she walks off. Well, I was right up behind her following her. She puts the kitten in the passenger's car window, where her husband is sitting. I'm standing there in the HOT sun, sweating, like.... YOU GON PAY ME? Then she says she wants to see the parents. Oh my goodness gracious. I run and go get Samantha. Show her Samantha. Poor Samantha is scared to death, out there in the sun, with a grouchy lady staring at her, judging her. She made a rude comment about Samantha, like are you sure she is a Ragdoll? Well, that pissed me right off. I got a little bass in my tone. I said, "OK have you seen her enough? I got to go grab the dad now." She sensed my animosity and she said "What's wrong with you? Are you ok?" I said, just Hurry up so I can go grab the dad. (Samantha was clawing me at this point trying to get away). She goes..."No no it's ok, you don't have to show me the dad." If I wasn't holding Samantha, I would've snatched that kitten out of her hands and told her to get off my property, but I was wrestling Samantha and holding out my other hand as if to say.... "PAY ME" She finally paid me and left. She was so mad for a week after. She cyber bullied me on Facebook. Posted all kinds of mean things about me. Just a total nightmare lady. Her poor husband sitting all submissive in the passenger seat like, ...what the hell.
Here's one: LOL. One time this lady and her (male version of a beard) IDK, I'm old. anyways, this lady and her man came to my porch. They looked as if they drank a lot of wine and stepped off the set of Young and the Restless. (Older parents/empty nesters roles). She came to see a particular kitten I had. I was expecting her to pay me and leave, but you will never guess what happened next. She asked me to step back inside. LOL. She wanted to be alone with the kitten and her (*husband*), and just wanted me to just go right back inside. LOL I was like, well dayum! I actually stepped back inside and said "sure" ...like  -sure thats normal.  I started texting my husband like ...you ain't gon beleive this da da da. He's like "No way". I'm like SQUARE to God. Anyways, five minutes go by and I'm like getting pissed off. So I go out there and say "Well, have you made up your mind?" I had to take control of the situation, get a little sterner tone, than before. Nikki and Victor got up and said, yeah we are going to pass. I accidently said GTFO out loud that one time in my life, but she was already walking off and I don't think she heard me. oops. I'll add more stories later.

What to expect when you come over here

6/21/2024

This is how I operate.
You make an appointment with me through text or email and then you come to my home. (It is very important for you to be on time. You can choose which appointment time is best for you, then I will arrange my entire day around the appointment time we agreed upon. So, try hard to be on time.)
You should text me when you pull in my driveway. I usually respond with "Ok, I'm coming".
Then you will see me come outside, and you can come and meet me on my front porch. That is - if you are wanting to look at kittens to potentially adopt. I will either bring them out in a stroller or have a little wire crate set up on a table for you to look at them.
On the other hand, if you are just picking up a kitten you have already reserved, just text me that you have arrived, and I will come walking out of my house carrying your kitten, and hand it over to you in my driveway.
I have two driveways. One is a dirt driveway, and one is a paved driveway. You can park in either one, or you can park along the street. My house is the one with the school bus in the front yard. (It is a SHTF vehicle for an emergency evacuation of animals).
Once you have looked over and decided to buy your kitten, you should pay in cash. (There are two large gas stations within 4 miles of my home, with ATM machines inside).
Hopefully you have a carrier to take your kitten home in, or else someone to hold it while you drive.
...And that's basically it. The whole process usually takes less than 5 minutes.

What you will receive with your kitten is: a small bag containing a shot record card, handful of small cat toys, a small sample of food, and a blanket.

Scottish Fold Cats

The Scottish Fold is a feline marvel, captivating hearts with its adorably folded ears and sweet demeanor. These cats possess a unique charm. The defining characteristic of the Scottish Fold is, of course, its folded ears. Caused by a genetic mutation, the cartilage in the ears folds downwards, creating an irresistible "owl-like" appearance. This signature feature is complemented by a round face, large, expressive eyes, and a plush short coat in a variety of colors. Beyond aesthetics, Scottish Folds are known for their gentle and affectionate personalities. Often described as easygoing and adaptable, they thrive on companionship and enjoy following their humans around the house. Their playful nature and curiosity make them delightful companions, especially for families with children or other pets. The Scottish Fold is a captivating cat breed with a unique appearance and a loving personality.

Toys

Do me a favor. If you bring your child over here and they think they are leaving with a new kitten, but then you change your mind, and decide to not get a kitten at all... Please do not leave here until I give them a toy package or something. I just watched a mother break her little girl's heart this weekend and if I had known she was going to pull that stunt, then I would have had a toy package ready to give the little girl. So at least she would have something.
Last year I saw a little boy around 5 years old holding back tears, after his parents freaked out that their white kitten they had reserved had tear stains. I gave them their deposit back in my driveway, like calm down Beyonce, but I still remember that little boy's face. It was so sad.
I have several children's toys that I had bought to stock my store with.
I think my store is about to close down. So I am trying to figure out a way to disperse all of this inventory, like maybe... free gift with purchase or something. Still trying to figure things out. We got a letter from our HOA that we need to move the store to the back of our house, but we have no more room for it behind my house. Therefore, I might just have to count my losses and get rid of it. I spent sooooo much money on decorating it and fixing it up from bare bones. I am very sad about losing it. I cried all night, after reading that letter.

Kitten Teething: A Guide for New Cat Owners

4/16/2024

Kittens, like human babies, go through a teething phase where they lose their baby teeth and develop their permanent adult teeth. This process can cause some discomfort for kittens, but with a little understanding and guidance from their owner, kittens can sail through teething without much trouble.

Kittens begin teething early, with their first set of teeth erupting around 3-4 weeks of age. These are their baby teeth, also known as deciduous teeth or milk teeth. The full set of baby teeth will typically be in place by 6-8 weeks old.

Around 3 months of age, kittens will start losing their baby teeth to make way for their permanent adult teeth. This process usually continues until the kitten is around 6 months old, at which point they will have their full set of 30 adult teeth.

Signs of Kitten Teething
While teething is a natural process, it can be uncomfortable for kittens. Here are some signs that your kitten may be teething:
  • Increased Chewing: Kittens will chew on anything they can get their mouths on to soothe sore gums. This is why it's important to provide them with plenty of safe chew toys.
  • Drooling: Like human babies, kittens may drool more than usual when they are teething.
  • Loss of Appetite: Chewing on hard kibble can be uncomfortable for teething kittens, so they may eat less than usual. If your kitten loses their appetite entirely or there seems to be another reason for the loss of appetite, consult your veterinarian.
  • Irritability: Discomfort from teething can make kittens cranky and grumpy.
  • Pawing at Mouth: Kittens may paw at their mouth to try to dislodge loose teeth.

Teething Tips
Here are some tips to help your kitten through teething:
  • Provide Safe Chew Toys: Provide your kitten with plenty of safe chew toys made from materials like rope or rubber. This will help them satisfy their urge to chew and soothe their sore gums You can find a variety of kitten teething toys at your local pet store.
  • Chilled Teething Toys: Chilled teething toys can be especially soothing for sore gums. You can dampen a washcloth and freeze it for a DIY teething toy.
  • Wet Food: If your kitten is having trouble eating kibble due to sore gums, you can try switching them to wet food for a while.
  • Massaging: I usually massage my kittens chin and jaw line, while I cuddle them. If they stop and allow you to do this, then you can bet that it feels very relieving to them.

Teething is a normal process, With a little care and attention, you can help your kitten through teething and ensure they develop healthy, strong adult teeth.

Here is an example of some great teething toys that you may choose to get your kitten. It could save your hands and fingers from getting chewed up.

Which Food should I buy?

You can buy your kitten whatever food you want, but the food that they are trained on here is called Purina One Healthy Kitten. (dry kibble).
The kittens have been litter box trained on Tidy Cats non-clumping cat litter (the kind sold in a bag). They, of course, use small kitten sized litter boxes.
