Billy Scooter is a standard Munchkin Cat.
He has short legs. He is solid blue. He was born on April 22, 2021 to Charlene ( a Munchkin) and Tuggy (a Persian).
He is so funny.
He had some big adventures when he entered into puberty.
One day he escaped and ran away. My husband tried to catch him when he started running away. My husband tackled him and slammed his whole body on the ground in attempts to catch him. Billy-Scooter was very determined, though. He bit my husband's hand until he would let go. Then Billy was gone. He ran away into the darkness & into the woods.
We called and called for him, but he was nowhere to be found. We took some night vision binoculars, and searched the woods. Billy was nowhere to be seen.
The next day I was outside using the water hose, and I kept hearing a meow. I looked around but nobody was there except ChaCha, my outdoor cat. I said, "Chacha, can you help me? I hear a cat crying in distress, but I cannot see it." ChaCha just walked away, and she didn't help me. I heard it again. This time I meowed back. lol. Then it meowed back at me, louder. This went on and on, as I was walking around my backyard peering into the surrounding woods, meowing. My neighbors must've thought, welp she's finally lost it.
But lo and behold, I finally spotted him. He was about 40 feet up in the air on top of a tree. He was sitting on a branch. I said Zacheus, you come down. But he didn't think it was funny. He kept meowing and meowing. I took a video of him and sent it to my husband at work. He immediately sped home with all kinds of plans to get him down. Nothing worked. We tried everything, from ladders to nets, to catching him in a tarp, to persuading him with food, anything we could think of. He stayed up that tree all weekend and through a rainstorm and strong winds. We set up a loud radio next to the tree to keep away predators. We had our lawn chairs set up at the base of the tree. We spent all day everyday trying to talk him down from that tree. We even set up a 3 tier cage out by the tree, and put his best friend, Heathcliff, in the cage. We thought, maybe Heathcliff (one of my male cats), can talk some sense into him. Nope. Nothing worked.
I was singing that PJ Harvey song "C'mon Billy". He didn't care.
Monday came around and my husband had to go back to work.
Same thing, I'm out there in the back yard using my water hose again, doing chores. Billy starts meowing meowing at me, only this time I ignore him. He got louder and louder, and I just ignored him.
You may think that's mean. Well, I had heard on the Nextdoor app, the day before, that a couple had prayed a cat down from a tree, and they posted a picture, and my goodness alive, it was Billy. This little short sucker has been going up and down trees all willy nilly like. I said, that boy knows how to get down, but he is just playing us for a couple of fools.
Do you know that did the trick? I just ignored ignored ignored him all day long, never acknowledged him. He would meow meow, and I would act like I didn't hear a thing. I worked outside where he could see me, but I acted like I couldn't see him. Soon as my husband got off work, he went back there, in the back yard, and climbed that ladder that we had tied on the tree. (I mean, we had it bolted down to the tree using two by fours and blocks to make it level. It was the tallest ladder they sell at home depot, but it still never would reach the heights that Billy was.)
Anyways, my husband climbed that ladder, and Billy hopped on the branches and came right to him, and into his arms.
I said, "Ha, see there.. I told you to just ignore him and he will come down. He is getting a real kick out of all this attention".
"Nahh Nahhh" my husband said. (I mean, I could say "white" and he would say "black").
But anyways, hey.. I happen to think that ignoring him worked.
Now, Billy is back inside where he belongs and boy... he ate a real big supper that night and slept so hard. His muscles were puffed up like a "pocket bully" after four to five days up a tree. All the girl cats were like.. "hey billy".
So that's my story about Billy. He was born here, & Lord, he was the sweetest baby. Long as you get your kittens neutered, then they won't behave in such a ways as this. That puberty cycle really changes them.
